PREFACE
Koji Ito
April 21st 1997

This "Sermon on the Mount", which should be called a miracle of the twentieth century, was received as "a revelation" in God's words at Mt. Kuramayama in Kyoto from midnight of June 25th in 1965 to the dawn of the next day. The voice called itself Kumara and spoke through Dr. Hattori in an unknown language and was recorded using a tape recorder by Ito (the editor of this book) who accompanied Dr. Hattori as an assistant.

Dr. Tomomi Hattori, who was a famous ophthalmologist, and had been given the name "Seifu"(holy wind) by Kumara during a latihan (the Subud spiritual exercise) on February 10th in l993, climbed Mt. Kuramayama, following a sign from God, and there received "The Worldly Guiding Principles of Subud ".

In section 1 of the teaching, a detailed explanation about "the eternal mystery of life" or "the truth of life" is given by God, which has never been explained up to the present. In the following sections, explanations and teachings about the situation of this world are given from God's elevated point of view, and detailed explanations about solutions to the problems of this world are also given with God's intentions. In the last section, section l0, the reason for God making these teachings available to the world is mentioned. What is most necessary for human beings to live in this world is mentioned, and God tells us that we will be able to live our lives happiest if we live in this world according to these teachings.

God's words are different from those of human beings as they are not confined to superficial expressions but contain further deep meanings. I wish from the bottom of my heart that you are able to grasp the essence of Kumara's Worldly Teachings, the teachings which should be called "a miracle of the 20th century", by reading it with appreciation and practicing it. A religious anthropologist, Mr. Shinichi Nakayama, stated in the Mainichi Newspaper under the title of "The Reviving of a Concept" as follows "A Creed - Believe and Jump!". The creed cannot be understood by reason, because it tries to access areas where reason cannot access. There is nothing to certify that Jesus Christ is the child of God. However, Jesus said that he was always in touch with God and people who believe this try to direct their minds through Jesus to God's domain outside the human world, an omitting the middle part.

Although it may be that in Christianity, Buddhism or Islam, or whatever religion people support, that there exists the Province of Absolute Truth outside the conscious structure of human beings and that human beings can access this province through revelations, salvation, meditation, and other methods, it requires a jump of the consciousness on the part of human beings. Believe it and make the jump! This is the message from religion. People jump who can believe it and people who cannot do so, remain inside the conscious body of human beings. Therefore, however hard psychology and cerebral physiology try to elucidate the mechanism of the creed within the field of scientific reason, the creed will continue to refuse to be elucidated, which is itself the work of human consciousness. Concluded. Perhaps a wise saying!

From this point of view, if people do not believe "Kumara's Worldly Teachings", which can be called "the treasure of mankind", and if they do not jump, the treasure will decay. If people do not practice and experience it after reading it, it will remain only as a guide and esoteric knowledge. Without experience, people can not come to comprehend it or to believe in it.

Kumara says as follows: the teachings of Kumara should not be understood in sentences but rather an understanding of it should be deepened gradually by each experience. You (Seifu) must experience it. Kumara's teachings can not be understood until one has experienced them.

Having read this book and believing in the existence of God, how about jumping into the world of creed. Kumara recommends the latihan of Subud as a method of worship. Practicing the teaching of God through the latihan, may you experience the true life willed by God, and nothing could please me more than if you could attain the happiest life which Kumara refers to.

INTRODUCTION
Koji Ito
May 5th in 1997

This story begins with Dr.Seifu Hattori saying to me modestly that Kumara seemed to know me. The doctor then said that Kumara had said to him "As there is something to teach you, come to Mt.Kuramayama. Kumara nominates Ito as an assistant. As there is a large volume to teach, record it. Never let the teaching out to others". So, the doctor asked me to go to Mt.Kuramayama with him on the night of June 25th, 1965. Dr. Hattori and I went to Mt. Kuramayama in Kyoto with a tape recorder. At 12 o'clock in the afternoon of June 25th, we entered the temple's gate in front of the main shrine. We had a latihan there and again on the way to the summit of the mountain, it was dawn when we finally arrived at the highest point of the mountain. The wind whirled groaning above our heads through the top of the Japanese cedar trees which were more than 1,000 years old. Reminiscing about this night, the doctor told me that he would not have gone there had he been alone. That night, I tried to have a latihan while the doctor received the teaching so that my thoughts would not hinder him from receiving the message. But I soon fell asleep. I could hear a strange language that was not Japanese coming from the doctor's mouth on and off between being asleep and awake. Fortunately, I had switched the tape recorder on before falling asleep. About three weeks after that, I asked the doctor about the content of the teaching; he told me to forget it. Three years later (March 2nd, 1968), the doctor said that he might be able to reveal some of the contents, and he made an oral presentation of Kumara's teaching "About Love" after a group latihan.

As God's words cannot be heard with one's ears but only by the inner self, I tried to listen to them in a state of surrender to God. Perhaps partly because I had had a latihan with the doctor on the top of the mountain that night, it seemed to me that the teachings of Kumara had already been impressed on my inner self, so I had a good understanding of what the Doctor was talking about.

On July 4th, 1987, Dr. Hattori made a another part of the revelation received on the top of Mt.Kuramayama known. While the doctor had been receiving the latihan on the same day that Bapak died, a vision of Bapak appeared to him and told him that Bapak had already received the same teaching that the doctor had received. Bapak hoped that this teaching would reach all members of Subud, but he doubted how much it did. Bapak told the doctor to make even a part of what he had received, known orally. Although Dr.Hattori had no intention to make the teaching known, he decided to give only Section 1 now. During the latihan in May 24th, 1965, he received instructions that he should go to Mt. Kuramayama at night on June 25th, one month later, as there was something to teach him. He was astonished. Though the voice said that there was something to teach him in a month's time, he could not believe the words and thought the voice was deceiving him. Later, during a latihan after a bath on June lst, the voice said that the teaching would be taught on the night of the 25th. As there would be much teaching to memorize, record it, and spread the teaching to all people. Again, on June 9th, the voice said that though the event is quite an ordinary matter in God's sight, it would be seen as being stupid from a human way of thinking and laughed off. For this reason, Kumara wished that it not be talked about, even by Subud members, and especially by non-Subud members. If it got out, Kumara would encounter difficulty in accomplishing His will.

On June llth, the voice said that The Worldly Guiding Principles of Subud had not yet been prepared to go out into this world. What Kumara will teach you on the night of June 25th will be "The Guiding Principles" or "the way to live one's daily life". Hereafter, it is hoped you will not take action based on your thoughts. This means that you should wait until the latihan on the 25th and that you should avoid thinking. Kumara's teaching should not be understood in sentences but be understood deeply and gradually by each experience. Not by words; you must experience it yourself. As Kumara's teaching cannot be understood and be made ready to go into the world until you have practiced it yourself, even if you tell it to somebody, you will not have a practical understanding of it and other people will not be able to understand it either. Only Bapak understands it, therefore, you must not tell it to any one but Bapak.

Dr. Hattori was forbidden from explaining about the teachings. On the night of June 25th, some original unknown language, as recorded by Mr Ito, came out from the mouth of the doctor. Since then he had been perplexed about the recording. On June 27th, when he was having a meal and thinking that he might take it to a language laboratory of a university somewhere and have it translated, he suddenly entered into a latihan and he became unable to eat anymore. During the latihan, he received the introduction of "the teachings" in Japanese and also a table of contents for "Kumara's Teachings". On July 1st, he received Section l, Clause 1, "About the meaning of living life" in Japanese. From that time to July 18th, he received in Japanese Sections 1 to 10.

These teachings should be understood by experience. People cannot understand it by words. For example, though Bapak made the "Susila Budhi Dharuma" public, few people can understand it who read it. Even though they may read it, they cannot get the meaning of it. Therefore, he was instructed by Kumara not to teach it through words, because the words will only go through people's minds and come to nothing just as "Susila Budhi Dharuma". So, I have kept silent for twenty years. I think that, as I have been having latihan with you for twenty years since I had received the teaching, it has penetrated you in the latihan. However, Bapak told me that he doubted whether if it had penetrated other Subud members well. Bapak also said that I had better tell members even just a part of the teaching to make sure whether they had received it or not. So, as I am going to give only a part of section 1, please don't analyze it as right or wrong mentally. Please listen to it in the state of light latihan so that it may come into your inner self. Dr. Hattori read from clause 1 to clause 10 of section l. As "Kumara's Worldly Teachings" which should be called "the Sermon on the Mount" are the words of God, please do not treat them as "knowledge". I would be very happy if you accept them not with your mind but deeply in your inner self with a quiet heart. Then, the teaching of God will certainly be put into your inner self and you will be shown how to live a true life.

KUMARA'S WORLDLY TEACHINGS

Received by Tomomi Hattori MD PhD June-July in 1965
Translated by Hitoshi Maeshima MD PhD May in 1997

On May 24th, 1965
The instruction was received during personal latihan that there was something to be taught at the top of Mt. Kuramayama on June 25th.

On June lst
Instruction: The teachings will be taught on the night of the 25th. As the volume of the teachings is too much to memorize, record it. Kumara nominates Mr. Ito as an assistant. Kumara wishes the teachings to be spread to all people. The origin of Subud is Kumara. Subud and Kumara are one and the same. Kumara is the spiritual light which first appeared on this world 6 million 8 hundred thousand years ago.

On June 2nd
Revelation: Kumara's teachings should be recorded and He wishes to convey the teachings to all people. Through the teachings, people will come to know how to live a true life. Up to the present day, the documents handed down are what people had written without guidance.

This is the first time that the true teachings of Kumara go out into the world. Kumara gives you all of His powers. Use these powers to save people. The powers are not your powers. They are the powers emanating from Kumara. Therefore, renounce your own thoughts, and then live your life as the teachings of Kumara show. This is your life hereafter and you live for this purpose. Kumara came into existence in this world 6 million 8 hundred thousand years ago.

Since then, He has continued to exist as a spiritual light. Now, Kumara appoints you the appropriate person through whom He is going to make His spiritual powers and intentions emanate into the world. The reason being that Kumara has never found the right person up to the present.

Bapak is Kumara. Kumara is Kumara. Bapak is Kumara. Kumara is Bapak. Bapak is you. You are Bapak. Bapak is Kumara. Kumara is you.

On June 4th
Revelation: Subud becomes complete with both the "spiritual teachings" and the "worldly teachings".

On June 9th
Revelation: This event is quite an ordinary matter in God's sight. However, it might be taken as a stupid matter from a human way of thinking and laughed off. For this reason, Kumara wishes you not to talk about this even to Subud members, let alone to non-Subud members. If it gets out, Kumara might encounter difficulties in accomplishing His will. You had better use all the powers as your own.

On June 11th
Revelation: "The Worldly Guiding Principles of Subud" have not yet been prepared for presenting to the world. What Kumara teaches you on the night of June 25th are "The Guiding Principles" or "The Way To Live Life". When these teachings go out into the world, Subud will become more realistic and easier to understand by everybody and then it will be adopted at a terrific speed.

As Subud has been confined only to the spiritual field up to the present, it has been difficult to understand and has not made much porgies. However, to have an understanding of these Worldly Guiding Principles, people need to have some knowledge of spiritual matters, otherwise they will not be able to truly understand. This is a fundamental principle for understanding the Guidelines.

Subud has now reached the stage of worldly teaching from the stage of spiritual teaching, and will be adopted at a terrific speed with this stage. Kumara wishes to establish an International Center in Nagoya for guiding every country in the world in worldly matters. Hereafter, perform all of your tasks following the instructions of God and never take action based on your own reasoning, because Kumara intends to use you to this end.

These teachings will go out into the world for the first time and people all over the world will receive peace and delight by them. However, should this go out into the world in the wrong way it may have serious consequences, therefore, be sure to consult with Bapak first. Kumara wishes you to expand these teachings into the world; He has made up His mind to make them available as He can no longer stand seeing so much confusion in this world. Hereafter, Kumara will teach, guide and instruct you in your every action, so you should also only transmit as you have been taught and make your actions as guided and instructed. Don't add your own thoughts to it and don't take any action based on your own reasoning.

As Kumara's teachings cannot be understood or be made ready to be made public until you have practiced them, even if you explain them to someone, you will encounter difficulty in understanding them yourself, and also people will not be able to make them out. Only Bapak can understand them. Therefore, you must not tell it to any one but Bapak.

On June 25th
Dr. Hattori went to Mt. Kuramayama in Kyoto with Mr. Ito carrying a tape recorder. At 12 o'clock in the afternoon, they entered the temple gate in front of the main shrine.

Dr. Hattori received "Kumara's Worldly Teachings " in the original language (God's words) at the top of Mt. Kuramayama. After having received it, Dr. Hattori received the following instructions: Kumara has bestowed powers on you today and you have accepted these powers from Kumara. You should use these powers to save people. In your life hereafter, you should save people with the powers given by Kumara today. That is the true way of life you are going to live. For this purpose, Kumara called you here and gave you these powers. With the powers, assist people.

As to yourself, Kumara will give you all the instructions you need, do not worry. Just think of saving people with the powers given you by Kumara. Kumara has already given you these powers. Use the powers for the people.

KUMARA'S WORLDLY TEACHINGS

Parts of the Text (The Worldly Guiding Principles of Subud)

Section 1 Clause 1 - About the meaning of life

What is it to live life? Living life is "to act according to the instructions of God" People do not understand this. People take it that to live life they can act how they want to or how they think they have to do. However that is not living a true life. Living life is to act according to the instructions of God. If people wish to live true lives, they have to receive instructions from God. To receive these instructions, people have to surrender to God. To surrender to God, they have to receive the latihan. To receive the latihan, they also have to surrender to God. Surrendering to God is to associate with God. Only through an association with God, does one's life become meaningful to one. However, the majority of people live without any association with God. Even though their life has no meaning, people take it as living life. For this reason, they cannot live true lives. People believe they live their lives, this is the state they are in. However, it should not be like this. To live a true life, after all, one must associate with God, receive His instructions and act according to His instructions.

This is the meaning of living a life.

Section 1 Clause 6 - About desire and its result

The desires of human beings are infinite and can never be satisfied. Therefore, it is very important to know how to handle these desires. If a human being follows his desires and falls a victim to these desires, he will eventually be ruined by them. Because desire knows no satisfaction. If it attains satisfaction in one way, it requires to be satisfied in another way. If it attains that satisfaction, it requires still further satisfaction. Therefore, human beings frequently ruin themselves with these desires. Therefore, it is very important to know how to handle these desires in human lives. Therefore, if a person has a good understanding about desire and is capable of keeping it under good control by himself, he will be able to subjugate the desires and to choose the right way. However, it is very difficult to subjugate these desire by one's own strength.

It is almost impossible to keep desire under control by human strength and therefore human beings have to surrender this control to God. The control of desire is not a human task but has to be committed to God. He has the ability to control desire as God controls it, but man does not understand this. He thinks he is free.

If you can observe the movement of desire, it will drive you and carry you to the end of the world eventually it will make you lose sight of yourself. This is the nature of desire. Many people have been ruined because of desire, and now many people have also lost sight of themselves due to desire. Therefore, it is impossible to control desire unless human beings have a good knowledge of its nature and have an intention to commit its control to God. It is impossible for us to have this desire controlled by God unless we depend on the latihan. In this way, the latihan puts human desire under the control of God. That is the nature of the latihan. Human desire is controlled by the latihan. That is the nature of the latihan. Although it would be very difficult to realize that one of the great benefits of the latihan is controlling desire, it is a fruit of the latihan. Subud members will notice that their desires come to be controlled gradually and to decrease as the latihan makes progress. It is nothing but God's control of these desires. The desires naturally come to be controlled like this. Without this method, it is almost impossible for people to control desires for themselves. People practicing the latihan will have practical experience of this. If a person does not experience this, it is because he is not receiving the true latihan. The latihan will invariably lead to your desires gradually being put under control.

Desires are never unnecessary things. They are very necessary things for us living in this world. However, if desires are left as they are, they have the nature by which human beings loose sight of themselves in the end. For these desires to exist in the right manner, God's control of them is necessary. God's control of them is operated through the latihan. Therefore, you are urged to receive the latihan diligently and not to fall to the mercy of desire. That is the nature of the latihan.

Section 1 Clause 7 - About destiny

Does destiny exist or not? What do people think about destiny? People think that destiny is just things taking care of themselves. However, destiny is not like that. Destiny is the result of the extent of a person's relationship with God, if it is close his destiny will be very good but if he is apart from God, his destiny will not be very good.

Whether a person is apart from God or is closely related with God, people call the result destiny. Therefore, we think as if things occurred naturally seeing only the results, but reality is not like that. When human beings cannot understand why something turns out the way it does, they call it destiny. Although people only call it destiny when they cannot realize by what force the result has come about, and they call it destiny because they cannot realize that God is controlling the result.

If a person wishes to have a good destiny, he must have a close contact with God. If he does not wish for a good destiny and the inherent results, he need not have contact with God. However, if he wishes for a good result to his life, he must contact with God. Through it, God works on human beings and exerts Himself to give assistance in carrying them in a better direction. However, if he does not contact with God, it would be difficult for him to expect a good result to his life.

But some people think that such a thing has almost no meaning, and only think about what God is. By thinking about it, they cannot have a good understanding of it. However, the fact is that his life appears in a very different light depending on whether he is in contact with God or not. Therefore, if he wishes for a good result, he must have contact with God. To have contact with God, he needs to receive the latihan and to have his inner self cleansed. Therefore, God has a great power over destiny. However, people cannot understand it correctly, as they say that destiny is based on results. Therefore, they do not understand that destiny is due to the actions of God. The fact is that a person is moved by the power of God.

To date, no teaching from God has been given about such matters. However, Kumara conveys these teachings to all people through you so that they may have as much contact with God as possible and make their lives better ones. So, please, all of you, receive the latihan diligently. Through this, your lives will be guided gradually by God. With the guidance of God, you will become able to mark out your true lives. Without contact with God and without His guidance, it is very difficult for you to lead your lives for yourselves. Therefore, you are urged to better your lives by receiving the latihan diligently and being guided by God.

This is the teaching of Kumara about destiny. Destiny is such a thing. To improve one's destiny is nothing but to receive the guidance of God, and to encounter a bad destiny means not receiving His guidance. Kumara wishes to convey this to all people so that they can receive the guidance of God and not stray from the true path of their lives.

Section 1 Clause 10 - About life and death of human beings

How do human beings receive life and how do they lose it? Kumara will have now talk about life and death. When a human being receives life, he doesn't receive it through his own ability. He receives it through the power of God. However, a human being can not know this for himself.

A human being thinks only that there is life and then death occurs, but he cannot understand that these both come from God. The life that a human being is given at birth is controlled by God, and it is under His control that a human being is born and meets death. God brings birth and death to human beings, by His power and never due to human ability.

However, it is very difficult for human beings to realize this because they try to think of it as an ordinary event and try to comprehend it. But it is different from ordinary events, in an entirely different appearance. God can give birth to human beings but He can also bring death to them. God gives birth to human beings when it should be given and He brings death when it should come. However, it is by the will of God and not by the will of human beings.

When God gives life to a human being, He gives each individually the mission of God, to each life and to each body in his life. God gives the mission of God to each life. However, human beings cannot understand this. Therefore, if a human being could understand it, it would be for him to live his life to complete the mission given to him, as God mentioned before. A human being can live a true life by understanding what mission is given to the existence of life. However, as human beings cannot understand it, they can be taught the mission of his life from God through having contact with Him through His instructions. Therefore, to hear the instructions of God is the same thing as hearing the mission of his own life. As human beings do not have such an understanding, very few human beings use their lives truly. Therefore, God wishes that a human being uses his life according to the mission given from God.

God wishes that the life can be acted out truly according to the mission of God. This is the wish of God. However, it is difficult for a human being to understand God's wish. God intends to give human beings instructions so that they can live true lives, and that they can live according to the missions given by God. Therefore, if a human being hears instructions from God and acts according to the instructions, he can do nothing but correctly use the life given to him by God. This is nothing but to live. To live a true life is to receive instructions from God and to live according to the instructions.

As it is very difficult for human beings to hear the instructions, God has given the spiritual latihan to human beings so that they can have contact with God. Therefore, the latihan is nothing more but the way to receive instructions from God. The latihan is the way for human beings to hear the instructions of God. Unless people who attend the latihan understand this, it is very difficult for them to realize truly what they receive from it. Although people attend latihan regularly, very few of them have a true understanding of the latihan. The latihan is a means to hear the instructions of God. It is a means to hear the instruction of God and to live a true life. This is the bounty which people can receive who attend the latihan.

What is death? A human being receives life and, in the course of time, renouncing it, passes into the world of death. In human sight, these are two things. There is death and there is life. Life and death are just life and death in human sight. However, in God's sight, both life and death are one thing. It means that these are different in appearance only in human sight and that there is no life nor death in the life of the inner self nor in the soul of the inner self, and it continues uniformly as one existence.

Therefore, though it may be said that there is life and there is death, each is an appearance in human sight but those are both the same in the sight of God. Both death and life are living appearances of one soul. Therefore, all is not nullified by death. The soul of one's inner self continues to live after death also. The latihan you practice is a method through which you can experience such a thing.

Death is also an aspect of a living human soul as well as life. Therefore, to think that a human being is nullified by death is only a human concept. In God's sight, it has no meaning at all. Human beings are not nullified by death. They continue to live in their inner selves as well as when they were alive. Although they lose their physical body, their inner selves continue to live as well as when in life. Although it cannot be seen by human sight, it can be seen by God that the inner self continues obviously as one. Now, about death. The time will come before long when you yourself make people know that human beings are not nullified by death. Although it may be long from now, God thinks that He will give you a time for you to show this to people. The time will come when you show people that you continue to live also after your death. Seeing it, people will know that it is true by the evidence you give them that a human being's inner self is not nullified by death. People will see that you have not been nullified by death. It is for the purpose of showing people that your power continues to work even after your death. God has already given you such a mission. Therefore, you should understand that death is also part of your life as well as living, and that you will continue to live forever.

Thus teaches Kumara about life and death.

Section 3 - The relation between the latihan and daily life

The latihan, as practiced by Subud members, is a spiritual exercise. However, it is not just a spiritual exercise but also something which has effect on daily life. How does it influence daily life? As some can testify, it can bring about profound changes in active life. But what changes?

Depending on the case, there are improvements, in other cases it becomes worse. It is a process through which one's daily life becomes better. The process leads to one's life becoming better or worse. But finally, one's life will be lead in a better direction, because God is always guiding one's daily life, whether one has a good understanding of it or not.

Whether one is actually aware of it or not, God is always working you. In this way, the latihan actually has an influence on one's life. So, it is very important that when practicing the latihan one should do so with a neutral attitude not thinking too much. Because no condition more facilitates the work of God than this. The work of God will be disturbed if one thinks too much.

Following the latihan, one should also attend to one's daily life with a neutral attitude, or God's work will be hampered. Thus, God is constantly guiding one. That is the way of daily life in Subud. Therefore, it becomes difficult for God to give guidance to one who thinks too much about his work.

As mentioned in section 1, God can work best when the lower forces are weak in man. So, in daily life, people had better not use the lower forces too much. Of course, a complete surrendering to Almighty God is required in the latihan, it helps a Subud member receiving God's guidance that he does his business with a quite neutral attitude without using the lower forces too much, even if he does not completely submit to God. Therefore, a Subud member should understand that he receives constant guidance and protection from God in his active life. So, the Subud member should not use the lower forces too much so that God can give him guidance in his work. That is the life of Subud members.

People don't understand that they receive the guidance of God in their daily life in this way. But they must understand that God always works on human beings to guide their active lives. People using the lower forces to excess will go on with their daily lives in their own way, despite those forces. However, he will be at the mercy of these lower forces and, eventually, will be led by them into such a state of confusion as he will have no more knowledge at all of which way to go.

So the lower forces become stronger and stronger and he becomes under their control and accepts their dictates. Following their orders, he goes astray and doesn't know where to head for. This is the state of a person under the control of the lower forces. But, one's daily life should not be in this state. By receiving unquestionably God's guidance, one will necessarily understand where one is heading and what God intends for one. If so, God will never guide one into a state of confusion. Please understand this. On the other hand, if man receives the truth clearly, with more and more guidance from God on such in his daily life, he will find true happiness of God's giving at last. He will come to a state of true happiness. It is a life of God's guidance. Therefore don't think too much when practicing the latihan, or in your daily life. Man should attend to his business with a neutral attitude. He will gradually receive the guidance of God. That is the way of life of people following the latihan. Therefore, people practicing the latihan should understand that Subud is not only a spiritual latihan but also a power working in daily life and so should not fail to attend to the latihan. Please, attend the latihan faithfully, and you may encounter true happiness of your life.

Thus teaches Kumara about the relationship between the latihan and daily life.

Section 4 - How does Subud change people?

How does Subud transform people? What does Subud do to people to transform them? How does Subud change people? These things will be mentioned.

At first, people will perceive a force in their inner selves not of their own, while practicing the latihan. The force will gradually transform people into the direction intended by it. People do not need intentions nor emotions, nor even knowledge of it. The force works best with none of these actions.

Then, the person begins to feel that something is gradually happening to him through his inner self due to this force. He begins to feel something changing from his inner self. Then, the changing spreads gradually over his whole body and reaches every part of his body. Finally, he will feel like his whole body has been enveloped by the force and he will feel his body controlled by the force. This is called clarification or cleansing of the physical body.

Following on from the cleansing of the physical body, the force, working from his inner self, gradually exerts an effect on his emotions and consciousness. In this way, his emotions, consciousness, and intelligence get gradually changed by the force, these changes happening spontaneously, and then his emotions, consciousness and intelligence are aligned in accordance with God's will.

After this is accomplished, he will then receive clearly the will of God. He will receive the will of God through his mouth, his ears, his physical body, or his heart. Therefore, as well as receiving the will of God, he will be able to act with the will of God. This becomes possible for him, in other words, he has received his true life. These changes in him were brought about by the latihan. And, through these changes, man is able to put himself in the right direction. That is, he will be able to live in this world as a human being along with the will and the mission of God.

This is the right way of human life. Kumara guides people to this through the latihan. In this way, Kumara leads people. This is the way through which human beings can change. It is a steady way through which human beings can change along with the will of God. Following this way, man will be led to a true happiness of his own.

You are urged to tell people this and to guide them so that they may be able to live correctly their true lives. This is one of what Kumara wishes for you. You are urged to make people understand this so that they can live correctly. This is what Kumara requires of you. Kumara has already given the method of the latihan through Bapak. However, only a very few people have been able to receive the true will of God through the latihan. Because, they have been so much influenced by worldly forces that they have great difficulty in completely surrendering to God.

So, Kumara has given you power so that a person receiving the latihan with you may be influenced by you to come to a true surrendering...he may attain true surrendering by receiving the force from you. Kumara has given you a great force through which people receiving the latihan with you can come to a true surrendering with the help of this great force. This is the object of Kumara's giving various kinds of forces to you now.

Of course, the power of God facilitates such surrendering, but people have been so influenced by this world that in order to surrender themselves, they need the influence of a man having already received such power. Kumara would like to show this in you. You are urged to have the latihan with as many people as possible; with many people not only in Japan but also in various foreign countries, and are also urged to assist in their coming to a true surrendering by sharing your power with them. By exerting your power you will be giving the power to the people through Kumara. It is the will of Kumara. Kumara is now giving you various forces in order for you to carry out such a roles. Through these forces, you will also be able to give great force to people. It is what Kumara requires of you.

Thus teaches Kumara about the way the latihan changes people.

Section 7 - Where does Subud originate?

Kumara will talk about the origin of Subud. Subud originated from God and not from human beings. Subud was not thought out or devised by human beings but it has been bestowed on human beings through God's intention. Therefore, it is the property of God and not that of human beings. When a man does not understand this, he forgets that it is the property of God and treats it as though it had been thought out by human beings. It would have caused a great mistake.

Therefore, without God's intent, Subud would not have come into existence at all. Because it is the property of God and not that of human beings. Human beings only feel as if it were their property as God had given it to them but they should never fail to remember that Subud has its origin in God. Therefore, it is not something that has been devised or thought out by humans. It is not that kind of a thing at all.

Please understand that Subud is quite different from other practices in this point. Although it is the property of God, it is possible that God's power be poured into other person through a "passage", which a man of having received the power of God has become. This is called "opening". Therefore, an opener does not open another person himself but becomes only a passage. People need to understand this. The very slow progress of the latihan as it is now being practiced is due to the fact that very few people understand that it's really the property of God.

So, people need to understand more deeply that the latihan is brought about by the power of God. When people have a good understanding of this, it will gradually come apparent to them what it is to truly receive the latihan. Unless people can have a true understanding of this, it becomes very difficult for them to receive truly. Therefore, as people do not have a thorough understanding of this now, Subud is in a stage at the present where a very few people can truly receive. The fundamental basics need to be understood more deeply by people that Subud is the property of God, and not of human beings. Although Bapak has repeatedly spoken about this, only a very few people who heard this believed from the bottom of their hearts that it was the property of God.

Even though people hear this in words, it is very difficult for them to grasp the true meaning of it. This is also true of the people practicing the latihan. Therefore, people are urged to understand better that the latihan is not the property of one person or another, but comes from God and that all that can be done in the latihan is to receive and this cannot be done by intention. Even though people have been following the latihan diligently, the passageway through which the power of God can truly work on them has been stifled. Of course, God is pouring great power into human beings to give it, however, not only from God's side but it is also necessary for human beings to have the state or an attitude where they have a good understanding of this and that they surrender themselves truly.

Then, God is going to pour His great power into man so as to make people aware of this, and for them to become more aware of it through practicing the latihan with him. You are urged to understand this and to receive the latihan with as many people as possible so that the great power can be poured into them. Therefore, Bapak is pouring this great power into you now so that the power can flow through people and so that they can be more influenced by this great power. This is necessary for the present Subud. You are urged to understand God's intention to pour more power into people by this means, and for you to become a passageway through which the great power can be poured into as many people as possible.

Thus spake Kumara about the origin of the latihan.

As Kumara is giving such power to you now, please receive that power and make an effort to transmit it to people all over the world. Whoever receives the latihan with you will invariably understand what the power of God is. This is Kumara's wish.

Section 9 - Why has Subud been given to people?

Kumara will talk about why Subud has been given to people and what significance it has. Subud had already been given to Bapak in 1923, when the world was in a period of a strife and people were really in utmost confusion due to strife. Kumara knew that this confusion could not easily be solved in a short time. This state of confusion would continue forever, even though its form might change.

Such strife, which continues to the present, happened in the world when people had lost sight of how to live correctly as human beings. Then, Kumara, gave Bapak a method through which He wished human beings would restore their true human lives and dignity. Kumara gave Bapak the method which has now been extended to every country in the world. It will take quite a long time before Subud becomes useful in daily life, because, the true Subud has yet to be understood by people. They do not have a correct understanding of the true Subud. The true Subud is not only the spiritual latihan as it is now being practiced but it is also a useful thing in peoples' daily lives.

It is a method through which people realize well what the meaning of living a true life is. However, Subud has not yet made enough progress for humans to have a good understanding of what living a true life means. At the moment, people are practicing the latihan diligently and are being gradually cleansed. However, only a few people understand its usefulness in their daily lives. Subud is not only the practice of the spiritual latihan but also a method through which people can understand how to live correctly in their daily lives and through which they can find this by themselves.

However, at the present stage, Subud has not yet made that much progress. At best, people believe vaguely that they will be able to find something by practicing the spiritual latihan. Even what they are looking for is obscure. So, from now, Kumara is going to take a new direction. That is, as you have repeatedly heard from Kumara, a step in which Kumara gives all kinds of powers to a man by whom people are shown what living a correct life means. Kumara is now on the point of doing this through a man. This way, Subud will help people find a way to live a true life before long and make this world a better place. Having decided on such a measure, it is on the point of being carried out by the man who has been chosen.

Therefore, the reason why Kumara...God...has given the Subud method to human beings is because this world will become a better one through God's method. Nothing but this method will make this world a better one. Absolutely nothing! Only God's power can do it, and human beings can never achieve it by themselves. The present world situation has come to this point. It is impossible for the appearance of the world to be changed by any human power. The confusion of the world would only last much longer. So you are to be aware that God has chosen a man through whom He is going to take a step to correct the world situation.

Thus spake Kumara about why He had sent Subud to the world and why He has made Subud like this.
